Adopt a Labrador

Please think carefully about what you can offer before applying to adopt. We look at the needs of each dog and place them according to the family that can best meet the dog's needs. In order to manage your expectations, please keep in mind that some of our dogs are quite needy. Others may be untrained young 'hoolilabs' that need time and patience in abundance. We have a duty of care to both the dogs and adopting families to ensure that it is a successful adoption.

Why can't you see available dogs?

Unlike some rescues, we always have home checked and approved families ready to adopt. We always have more families than dogs and our fantastic re-homing team are proactive, ensuring that dogs are never left 'in limbo'. Most dogs are brought in to foster or re-homed directly to their new family within a few days.

We also help many families who have suffered bereavement or change in personal circumstances, meaning that they have exhausted all avenues to try and keep their much loved pet. For these families, their love for their dog is what compels them to ask for our help. Having to see their dog being 'advertised' would only add to their heartache.

However, there are special cases where we do use social media and our website to publicise. For example, sometimes we are asked to help dogs that are nearing the end of their statutory 7 days in kennels who face being put to sleep due to illness or age. These dogs are not easy to find homes for, so we do have to appeal for additional help from time to time, especially when our foster carers are full.

PLEASE NOTE: It is a requirement that garden fencing and gates, where dogs access is off-lead, are a minimum of 5ft and secure. However, if you are interested in adopting an older labrador, who we have assessed as not being at risk of jumping out, then a lower fence height MAY be accepted. In general, if you apply for a dog and your fencing doesn't meet our requirements, your application will not be taken any further.
