Peggy – Special Girl Seeking Forever Home

Peggy is a beautiful, gentle 1-year-old tripod who is thriving in foster care and now looking for her forever home. Despite a difficult start in life, she is a happy, affectionate girl who loves people and gets on well with other dogs.

Peggy has adapted brilliantly to life on three legs but needs managed exercise, enjoying several short walks each day on soft ground such as grass or sand. She does not enjoy lead walking on tarmac and would ideally suit a home with a large secure garden, land, or nearby beach.

She is calm, confident, and very food motivated, enjoying gentle enrichment like sniffing and foraging. Peggy is fully house-trained, rarely barks, and thrives on routine.

Ideal Home

• Adult-only or children aged 13+

• No entire male dogs

• Calm, understanding household

• No stairs; help needed getting in/out of vehicles

Peggy is currently unspayed and on joint supplements, which we recommend continuing.

Bruno is moving directly from his family into a loving home that was already on our waiting list, making this a smooth, calm transition with minimal upheaval for him — exactly how we like it for our dogs.

A huge thank you to our incredible team of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make moves like this as stress-free and positive as possible. We truly couldn’t do it without you.

I’ve got some BIG news… I’m officially well enough to go home! My amazing foster family is coming to collect me this afternoon and I can’t wait for sofa snuggles and home comforts

Now comes the tricky bit for my lovely LiN aunties — making sure all the pennies are raised to cover my vet stay. They’ve already done so much to save me, and I know they’ll do everything they can to keep helping more pups like me

This gorgeous boy headed to his forever home on Thursday. He’s just 10 months old and already melting hearts wherever he goes!

Toodles has been living it up in foster care, and on Thursday his amazing foster mum loaded him into the car and took him all the way to Wigan for him to start his brand-new life with a lovely couple who were so excited to welcome him home .

Just had a catch-up with my favourite vet team (they’ve got the best snacks and snuggles) and good news – I’m doing much better!

They’ve decided I should stay till Friday just to be extra sure I’m fully on the mend – I reckon they just can’t bear to say goodbye to me

My tummy’s looking a lot happier and I’m feeling way more comfy now, so it sounds like my meds are doing exactly what they should

Hello my lovely friends

Just had a catch-up with my favourite vet Lucy (well… she has snacks, so obviously I like her). Good news – I had a really good night, feeling much brighter and even scoffed all my tea like a good lad

I’m being starved this morning (outrageous!) as they’re doing a scan later, but Lucy thinks it’s all related to my sore wound getting infected. I’ve got some strong antibiotics and pain meds now so feeling much more comfortable

They’re keeping me in again tonight just to keep an eye on things, and if those funny wobbles I’ve had were seizures, Lucy thinks they might be down to the pain. So paws crossed once I’m all better, the wobbles will be gone too

Monday Evening Update 14/07

Evening update from me, Charlie Boy

The lovely vet humans think I’ve got a bit of a wound infection from my surgery – rude! But I’ve eaten well today, kept it all down (go me!), and I’m on a fancy antibiotic drip now. They’re keeping a close eye on me and doing an ultrasound tomorrow just to double-check there’s nothing else going on that might be causing the head tremors. Could be stress, could be the infection, but either way, I’m in the best place to get it sorted.

Might be staying another night so they can keep spoiling me with their undivided attention.

Charlie update Monday 14/07

Charlie Update

Just spoken to our lovely vet Lucy. Charlie is being admitted overnight for monitoring. He’s had another partial seizure this morning and is very lethargic. His temperature is slightly raised and there’s a sore patch near his wound, so he’ll be on pain relief and antibiotics too.

Lucy would like to carry out an ultrasound tomorrow — just to be sure the seizures aren’t linked to post-surgery pain. She suspects it may be a separate issue, but wants to rule everything out before considering epilepsy medication.

The scan alone will be around £1300, so once again we’re relying on your amazing support. We’ve said yes — because Charlie deserves the very best — but as a small rescue, we’re always mindful of our costs.

Charlie’s Story – A Brave Boy’s Journey

Charlie came into our care as an emergency case, seriously unwell and needing urgent medical attention. He was rushed to the vets, where it became clear that he was facing a life-threatening condition requiring major abdominal surgery.

Thanks to the quick action of our volunteers and the incredible skill and compassion of the veterinary team, Charlie underwent surgery and began a tough road to recovery. There were some scary moments along the way—complications, fluid build-up, and concerns about his digestive system restarting—but this brave boy fought hard every step of the way.

He spent several days under close observation at the vets, and we’re so relieved to say that he’s now home with his experienced foster family, who are giving him all the love and care he needs as he continues to heal.

Charlie’s vet bills have been substantial, but thanks to our wonderful supporters, we’ve managed to cover the majority of his treatment. We’re still fundraising to meet the remaining costs and are so grateful for every donation and message of support.

Charlie is a true fighter and a shining example of why we do what we do.

Sunday was a big day for this gorgeous pair as they moved from South Lanarkshire to their new home in Doe Lea, Chesterfield.

Assessed by our lovely Anne on Friday, they were relinquished on Sunday morning—and Anne’s wonderful hubby was already on the road, driving them to Tebay Services to meet their new family.

Their new owners were already on our waiting list and, after a lovely chat with Anne, shared how much they’d love a bonded pair—how perfect is that?

This has been such a hard decision for their original family, who absolutely adore them. But due to personal circumstances, they’ve made the brave and selfless choice to rehome them through us, ensuring they go from one loving home straight into another.

We’re so grateful to Anne and her husband for going the extra mile (literally!) to make this happen. Safe travels, boys—you’re already so loved.

Meet Jackson...

Meet Jackson – a beautiful young Labrador who came into the stray kennels with no name, no history, and no one coming to collect him.

The kennels described him as too anxious to even be assessed, and sadly, that meant no chance of rehoming.

But then…

Labradors in Need stepped in.

One of our incredible foster families opened their hearts and home to this scared soul. With time, patience, and so much love, Jackson began to trust again — tail wags, cuddles, and even a cheeky glint in his eye.

And now?

They’ve made it official. Jackson is HOME — forever.

Fostering literally saves lives. Without his fosterers, Jackson wouldn’t have stood a chance.

Olivia's fundraiser for Labradors In Need

Olivia is fundraising!

In June 2024, I was lucky enough to receive a ballot place to run in the 2025 TCS London Marathon, taking place on 27 April 2025. Since then, I have been training hard for what will be the biggest challenge I have ever taken on. While securing a ballot spot means I’m not required to fundraise, it is a fantastic opportunity to raise some money for a brilliant charity.

Labradors in Need brings together a small army of volunteers from mainland UK who are dedicated and passionate about the breed. They believe in putting the needs of each dog above everything. Dogs come to them in a variety of circumstances: bereavement, abandonment, neglect, change in personal circumstance, etc, and as a foster-based rescue, they act quickly and decisively to offer their help. Their main concern and priority is the welfare of each dog they help. The Labradors in Need team have a wealth of experience, which means that they support their dogs at all times. They also provide full support for the lifetime of each dog.

Hamish’s Gotcha Day!

Yesterday was a very special day – Hamish went to his forever home!

This lovely boy came into rescue just a few weeks ago and has been in the loving care of his amazing foster family. Thanks to their support (and plenty of cuddles), Hamish is ready for the next chapter.

Yesterday he made the long journey today, all the way from Scotland to Birmingham, where his new forever family were waiting with open arms.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible volunteers – from fosterers to drivers to home checkers and coordinators – it truly takes a village. You’ve all helped another piece of the rescue jigsaw fall into place.

Come and Meet Some of the Team and the LiN dogs this weekend, 23rd-24th Sept 2023

Pam and Sally, two long-serving volunteers and admins, head up the team this weekend at Harewood House, Leeds, where they will be joined by other volunteers and most likely LiN dogs to raise awareness of the work our rescue does. Of course, raising funds helps but we would love to attract more volunteers and secure additional sponsors for our long-term foster dogs. With Christmas looming, why not give the gift of love and sponsor one of our dogs?

Ever wondered what it is like to be part of the Labradors in Need Team? We are very fortunate to have volunteers up and down mainland UK who help with assessing, home checking and transporting our lovely dogs, but we always need more!

So if you've thought about volunteering but haven't yet decided if it's for you, maybe some words from current volunteers will help convince you!

For Alison, volunteering for LIN was an easy choice. Here she explains why:

."LIN clearly has at its’ heart the desire and need to put the dogs first above all else. All the processes such as home checks before access to dogs needing new homes are designed to make the rehoming process quick and as stress free as possible for both dogs and owners. The ability to be able to choose when you are able to offer your time without any pressure from the LIN team is great and makes it easy for you to ‘do your bit’ without feeling guilty that you can’t do more.

I volunteer as a home-checker for LIN and have met some lovely prospective new owners from families looking for their first dog to people willing to foster those dogs in need of a little more care before moving to their permanent home. In a world where there seems to be so much negativity it’s incredibly positive and rewarding to meet people who really want to give a dog the opportunity for a fresh start in a new home".

Kitty has been with us as a volunteer since 2016 and writes:

"I began volunteering for LiN in 2016 and I've loved every minute of all the home checks, assessments and crazy transport runs I've been part of. I am a failed foster mum, at foster no 6 I didn't let her go, but I now have several new friends around the country and its so nice to see the dogs flourish with their new families. For me, being a volunteer with LiN means hanging out with Lab people, waiting for strangers and strange dogs in motorway service stations ( transport runs, not dogging), looking after Labs in need of tlc and thinking of novel fundraising activities".

Being a volunteer can help fill a gap in your life too, as Carol suggests:

"I decided to become a volunteer for LIN after retiring from the Police. For 33 years I had worked with people in all kinds of situations and missed being out and about, meeting and speaking to people. When I first volunteered for liN, I lived down in Lancashire and did numerous checks, all over the area.

I have always loved driving and visiting new areas so I was always happy to travel anywhere and everywhere, meeting some lovely dog people along the way. I’ve also done dog assessments and dog transporting, all of which I have found very rewarding.

Almost four years ago I moved to East Lothian and now home check up in Scotland. It was not only a great way to help the dogs, the rescue and the people but it helped me to discover the new region I had moved to. Knowing that someone you have visited has been approved by the trustees and has welcomed a new dog into their family is a great feeling and I hope to continue home checking for as long as I can".

The final words go to Alison who summarises how so many of us feel about the LiN family:

"I’m very proud to be part of the friendly and welcoming LIN team, all of us working together in our respective roles to ensure that the Labradorables that need LINs’ help get it as quickly as possible from a well organised and supportive charity".

Sleep Tight Callie

Sadly, our Queen of the Long Term Fosters crossed the bridge last month, aged almost 15. Callie came into rescue 4 years ago or so and has lived with one of our trustees ever since. Despite developing pyometra soon after arriving with Sam, Callie enjoyed her twilight years largely untroubled by more than a few achy joints. Unfortunately, she developed some lumps and surgery was not an option due to her age and the position of them. Callie let her mum and dad know that it was time for her to rest.

Thank you to Sam and Michael for giving Callie the love, care and attention she needed. She loved you all right back.

The Launch of THE BIG ONE!

Labradors in Need are VERY excited to share our plans with you. We hope that you will get behind us!
Today is Giving Tuesday, which coincides with The Big Give that we can apply for in May next year. So we are using this date to launch our long -term plan for Labradors in Need.
2023 will focus on a targeted programme of fundraising for LiN to purchase a property or land that can be turned into a self-supporting rehabilitation and retirement centre.
We recognise that this is a long-term goal. However, with the ever-increasing need for rehabilitation, as well as security for dogs in their twilight years (evidenced by our long-term foster dogs consistently in high double figures in the past three years) we must look at the bigger picture.
With the excellent work of the fundraising team, the day -to -day costs of LiN are cushioned. Our aim is to source and secure funds and grants that do not detract from the existing fundraising.
Our goal is to establish a 'home from home' rescue centre that can become self-funded and benefit the wider community as well:
*We plan to open our facilities to the wider community by offering secure exercise areas to individuals and groups. The hire of the 'dog field' will help to offset some of the costs.
*Subject to availability, we aim to offer dog boarding and day care.
*We plan to offer temporary emergency care of dogs for people facing homelessness or needing to enter into emergency housing. We would like to enable dogs to be reunited with their owners when the crisis is over.
*Further down the line we plan to open a shop and café that can be a community hub for dog lovers to meet up and share their mutual interests.

We have teamed up with Bequeathed to offer a Wills for Good Service. Any donations made when making your free will (subject to it being straight-forward) through Bequeathed will go directly towards the big project (see our dedicated page for more details).

This is just the start! We will be applying for additional grants and introducing other fundraising events to support The Big One. We need to turn the dream into reality, as there are so many dogs who would have their lives turned around within the safety of a supportive rehab centre (and even more elderly and infirm dogs that could spend their twilight years in comfort and with love).

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We know that the current economic crisis is affecting many of us and being able to donate to charities may not be possible. However, you can still help us in a variety of ways. Here's some suggestions:

A £5,000 grant towards vet bills!

The Fundraising Team put together an application to Pets at Home Foundation (The Foundation), the registered charity founded by Pets at Home, for help towards our ever-increasing vet bills. Our wonderful volunteer, and LiN adopter, Margaret Green was the driving force behind the application. Margaret put many hours into the application, liaising with The Foundation's coordinator, LiN trustees and the rest of the Fundraising Team. We are immensely grateful to The Foundation and we will be updating to show where and on whom the money is spent. Unexpected vet bills are becoming more frequent and routine vet treatment for neutering and vaccinations has increased. At the same time, purchases through LiN and donations to LiN have fallen, most likely due to the current economic situation, so this grant allows us to have a financial buffer for when the next large vet bill comes our way.

Labradors in Need are busier than ever. We desperately need more volunteers to help in all areas. If you want to get involved and donate your time, even if you can't donate financially, we would absolutely love to hear from you!

Sadly, one of our long term fosters gained his wings shortly after he celebrated his birthday on 14th October with his dog friends and family. Affectionately referred to as 'laughing boy' by his foster mum, Ben was dearly loved in his twilight years and will be sorely missed. LiN would like to express our deepest thanks to his long term foster mum for opening her heart and home to Ben. Fly high Ben.

We would also like to pay tribute to all the long-term foster families and their dogs who have crossed the bridge over the years, while the website was not regularly updated. You know who you are and how special you are for all you have done for our long-term foster labs.

Giving a home to an older dog is not an easy task, knowing you may not have many years or even months together, but knowing you are giving a dog the best of everything for whatever time is left is the ultimate reward.

Re-homing Team Coordinator Kate Harris gives us an overview of 2022

So far in 2022, Labradors in Need have helped 64 dogs find new homes. Most of these are young dogs of 2 years old and under, which is different from previous years and obviously is part of the effect of the pandemic. For the first time in LiN's history, a good proportion of the youngsters have been puppies under 6 months. As the economic crisis deepens, we expect that many more families will find themselves in dire need of help and we will be there to help. Kate said of the current work of the re-homing team: "We are so incredibly busy but we are able to help so many dogs, which is great news for them".

The ever-increasing cost of rescue will not diminish in the coming months. In the last financial year, vet fees alone came to a whopping £43,000!! This includes:

neutering and vaccinations

long term fosters who have ongoing medical treatments to keep them well

surgeries for dogs that have come into rescue with injuries or afflictions

As a foster based rescue with no paid staff, we are dependent on fundraising to meet the costs of rescuing these labradors and lab crosses.

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our supporters, we are able to keep going into 2023 and give more labradors in need their happy ending.

Once Again ... Yippeeeee!!! It's meeeeee!!! Aggieeeee!!

Yipppeeeee! It's meeeee!! Brrrrr, if I had a willy it would be chilly! Mummy had to defrost the car this morning.

Sooooo, I have heard some gossip but I mustn't say anything, even though I reeeaaally want to! When I can, I'll tell you all about it, I promise!

Now, as Ambassador Aggie I have a VERY important mission. I need to tell you why you should volunteer. Here's a few reasons:

* You get to help dogs like me, not quite as good as me obviously, but we are all worth it

* You make lots of friends who love animals

* You get to be friends with me and that's as good as it gets

* You get to help Auntie Sue Poo do daft things to raise money. She once jumped out of an airplane! Maybe you could do something like it? I quite fancy making mummy jump out a plane without a parachute...

* You can help with transport as an excuse not to do housework or whatever else you don't really need to do. My BFF came on Tuesday and asked mummy when she last did her housework (she still hasn't done it!!!)

* You can check people's houses to make sure they are suitable and safe, and probably get a cup of tea or coffee

*Finally, if you don't volunteer I will send Tucker with an F to torture you until you do! Pop over to our facebook page and you can hear him croon

We need volunteers in all areas for as little time that you can spare. Without volunteers, we can't reach all the dogs that might need us. Imagine missing out on a beautiful, clever, shiny, did I mention beautiful, young lady like yours truly!

Adopted Aura 1yr Old

Aura is a baby at 1 year old but she is nothing like the usual hoolilabs we are asked to help. She's calm. She doesn't jump up. She isn't boisterous (yes, really). She takes treats gently. She has fab whistle recall. She's respectful of other dogs and enjoys their company. She's gentle with little dogs. She isn't giddy around other dogs when passing them or off lead on a walk. Can you see now why her aura is grey?

This lovely, sweet and kind girl is due her booster and hasn't been spayed. We will cover the cost of both. Although she doesn't live with another dog, during assessment she really enjoyed the assessor's dog being there. On a walk together she played with him in the river and played ball. She wasn't possessive of the ball and respected that it wasn't her ball. At home, she did have a grumble when the assessor's dog sniffed at her food bowl but apart from that, she was happy playing with her new friend and sharing her toys.

Aura has never lived with cats or kids. Our volunteer took her daughters along to assess how she was around the youngest, who is 11. Aura was happy to take treats from her and to be stroked but was head shy when she tried to touch the top of her head. She was the same with the volunteer herself. She will occasionally chew shoes if you are lazy enough to leave them laying around. She doesn't bark excessively but will when the door goes or she sees someone pass the house.

Currently, Aura is walked four long walks a day. As she is a lab cross collie, she needs good exercise but also mental stimulation. She's intelligent and would enjoy the company and stimulation of another energetic dog who can help her socialise with people. We think older children would also be a good source of mental stimulation, particularly one who wants a dog they can take some responsibility for. She would be a loyal and loving best friend for an older child/ teenager, who can help to gently build her confidence.

Aura is in South Wales, any offers of transport appreciated. Her minimum adoption fee is £200.

Adopted Webster 2yr old

This young boy is two year old Webster, a show type lab who is the stereotypical food motivated lovable choccy we expect. He is neutered and up to date with everything.

Webster lives with 10 and 11 year old kids and a cat. Indoor, he lives amicably with the cat. Outdoors, he chases him. He was seen around the kids and he was calm with them, but he does jump up in excitement so unless you have dog savvy kids, he's not for you.

During assessment he was taken on a walk. He does pull to start with but settles quickly. When he saw another dog he did pull to go and say hello but was distracted by a treat that he sat for. He will do all the basic commands when food is on offer! Webster's recall is one way. As in, he goes but doesn't come back. More so when a dog wants to play. So this will need work.

Webster is crate trained and sleeps in it at night and for longer periods when left. There was an incident when the cat chewed the lino and blamed Webster, so other than when popping to the local shop Webster is crated. He settles when left and has no anxiety, according to his owner.

A lovable, friendly and affectionate boy, Webster is a little excitable and will jump up when meeting new faces but doesn't do the wall of death speed zoomies like the hoolilabs have been known to do �� He will train well for the right treats and distractions, once you know what they are.

He's currently in the Hull area, his minimum adoption donation is £250 and needs to be moved ASAP.

Adopted Chaz 3yr Old Lab/Cocker

This dizzy, whizzy labracock is 3 year old Chaz. He's a gorgeous strawberry blonde lab x cocker and is just a bundle of fun and energy!

He's up to date with everything and has been neutered, he walks beautifully on a collar and lead and is good with other dogs, as long as they don't mind his Tigger on speed impressions.

Chaz lives with kids between 9 & 18 without any problems and currently shares the house with three other dogs and is around 8 working dogs owned by the family. He was originally bought by the lady's mother but she can no longer keep him. He hasn't had any training so needs back to basics with everything. There's a cat within the home, which he does chase from time to time.

This boy needs a family that can channel his energy into training, mental stimulation and exercise. He's probably better around older kids, unless you have younger kids that are used to being floored (or ones you want to be ��). He is super friendly but lacks the stimulation needed. Being part cocker, he would do well with scent work training, rally-o or agility. He is not the type of dog that would be happy with a half hour walk morning and evening and left to snooze in between. BUT with a change of diet (he's currently on a working dog food), regular exercise and lots of mental stimulation (obedience training, recall training, scent work etc), he will be a fantastic little lad.

He's in Staffordshire, his minimum adoption donation is £200 and he's just a bundle of fun!

Beautiful Brandy 6yrs Old

Had a long week? What about a Brandy to start your weekend?

This Brandy is a 6 year old vintage but not full bodied. She's a slim girl who is friendly and welcoming. She greeted our assessor with a wagging tail and lots of kisses! Although she did jump up, it wasn't boisterous and once she said hello she settled without trouble.

Brandy needs spaying, which LiN will cover the cost of, and is up to date with everything else. She does have an irritable bowel but this is carefully managed by a probiotic diet and a probiotic tablet a day. She needs to be kept to the same brand and flavour or she gets a bad tummy.

When taken for a walk, our assessor was the one being walked �� Brandy is a puller and was walked on a harness but she walks better on a Halti but isn’t keen on it.Despite this, when she came across a small dog and a small kid during assessment Brandy was nothing but friendly and well behaved.

Brandy hasn't lived with cats and does jump up at the fence at them but doesn't bark. She seems to be more curious than anything. She has, however, lived with kids but her owner has asked that we place her in a home with older or teenage kids (or none at all) so she gets the attention she craves.

Brandy doesn't sleep in an oak cask but she is happy to go in her crate when left or at night. She will chew if bored.She lives with another lab and has sound basic obedience.

Currently in North Yorkshire, this lovely girl's minimum adoption donation is £200.

Adopted Duffy & Marley

A beautiful pair of labs, Duffy & Marley are 7 & 4 and are friendly girls.

Duffy is the eldest. She has been with the family for just over a year and is very much attached to her female owner, who she stares lovingly at and is content to do so over and above anything else. She isn't interested in balls or toys and takes little notice of other dogs. Even her sister she can take or leave.

She will need spaying and vaccinating, which LiN will cover the cost of, and she's a healthy and fit smaller lab. She is well trained, walks nicely on collar and lead and has superb recall. She never strays far from her human and is very calm around the house. Out and about, Duffy can be a bit jumpy and nervous. She won't walk over high bridges but is ok if you carry her (she's small enough, luckily).

Marley is the yellow lab, who is also a friendly girl but out of the house she loves anyone and everyone, dogs and people. Her recall is selective and she is used to a halti headcollar as she can pull at times. Marley is a bit like a furby, she responds to excitement with excitement! So if she's around kids who flap about and use squeaky voices, she will become giddy. The kids she lives with have been well trained so she approaches them with the same calmness.

Marley is in good health but does have a piddly problem. When meeting new people, she widdles. The vets have said it's a stress response and it is managed by encouraging visitors to approach straight on, quick tickle under the chin and straight out to the garden. A solid floor is preferable to a shag pile carpet, for obvious reasons! Also, Marley is a vacuum cleaner killer and will attack it on sight, regardless of whether it's on or not. Perfect excuse to hoover less, maybe? ��

Both girls chase cats but are good around kids aged 4-14. They are being rehomed as the youngest child has developed progressively worsening allergies and the dogs can no longer go where they please in the house because of it. They share a 'den' under the stairs where they happily sleep and can be left alone without any stress or anxiety. Marley is more playful than Duffy and loves to swim, play ball and play tug. She looks to Duffy for confidence and needs her for reassurance, even if Duffy doesn't need Marley's approval!

A Letter from Lexi... With Love ❤️

Hi my name is Lexi and I’m told I’m a Labrador mixed with something or other. I have a beautiful long waggly tail and athletic legs, which I still need to grow into. I’m somewhere around 5 or 6 months old, but maybe if you adopt me we can pick a birthday date to celebrate together?

I love people, especially when they let me sit next to them and have a cuddle. I’m ok to spend a little time in my crate on my own as long as there is a toy or two for me to cuddle up with or a bone to chew and I’ve been really really good at staying on my own overnight while I’ve been living with my foster mum.

When I dream of my pawfect forever home it includes another friendly pawed playmate who would be happy to run around a nice big garden with me and share their toys (I’m good at sharing my toys). My foster brother is a small bouncy, snuggly, energetic dog who I can tumble about with and although he prefers to keep his tennis balls for himself he has shared all his fluffy squeaky toys with me, and his mum gives me a turn with the ball so it's fair.

I’m still quite young so do need some naps during the day as well as my nice big sleep at night. The best way to tire me out is to help me use my brain and learn new things. So far since Friday afternoon I’ve learnt to go to the toilet in the garden and now understand that when I’m told to ‘get busy’ this means I go and have a tiddle. I can also sit when I’m told to and I come back when I’m called by my name or to my foster mum's whistle command (she will teach you what it is too). Today I watched my foster brother go through the agility tunnel in the garden so I thought I’d have a go with him, it was really fun and I did it all by myself before the end of the afternoon. I think I could be an agility or fly ball superstar when I’m all grown up and my legs are good and strong.

I've been in the car quite a bit this last week and its turned out I really like going new places. I've been on the backseat wearing a harness and also in a crate and am quite happy with either option as I know I’m safe. The trip to the coffee shop was fun as lots of people came to say hello to me which I thought was really nice. We went to look at the ducks on the lake, I haven’t tried swimming yet but am sure I could do it.

I am a decent part Labrador so you wont be surprised to know I like my food, which I’m told also makes me very easy to train when combined with my quick thinking brain.

Finally a comfy sofa to curl up with you and watch tv in the evening would also be on my wish list, especially if I could put my head on your lap while I snooze. I have so much love to give and am just looking for someone to give me a chance and a forever home.

Form an orderly queue!!
This young man is Charlie, he's 10 months old and has been in foster so we can get a better idea of his needs and character. You won't be disappointed!
Charlie is a lover. He loves people and dogs and gets excited around other dogs, resulting in the odd hump. He has met children while out on walks and has been friendly towards them, although he isn't around kids in his foster home. We were told by his previous owner that there were frequent visiting children, so homes with older kids would be fine. He loves swimming and playing ball.
As most pups are, Charlie is inquisitive and impulsive. He recalls well unless he sees another dog and then he's gone! His lead walking is awful, he veers from side to side and pulls like a train. Unfortunately, due to family ill health his training and walks were cut very short, hence why he has had little input.
His foster dad has been working on his lead training by the stop-start method, which he is slowly responding to.
Charlie is a slow eater and needs encouragement to eat (I know! Shocker!).
He's currently on wainwright's large puppy as his original owner found he was sensitive to other food.
He needs neutering, which we will cover the cost of.
In the words of Charlie's foster, he is a 'lovely, friendly, playful, bouncy puppy with a great temperament'.

Hoolidallylab alert

This boy is simply stunning! 8 month old patch is a labrador crossed with a dalmatian, he is due to be neutered next week but is up to date with everything else.

Patch is a lively, energetic and boisterous boy who has the stamina of a dalmatian and the greed of a lab He needs lots and lots of training because he hasn't really had any. His recall is good as long as the grass is still (in other words, he's easily distracted and will go deaf).

Patch is dog friendly but lacks manners around dogs and can be boisterous. He chases cats and he's fast, so it's probably better not to chance it if you have cats. He has lived with children but they were allowed to tease him with food, so he MUST be left alone to eat in peace. If your children aren't taught to be respectful with dogs, then he's not for you. He would be better suited to older children who can help him burn off some of the energy he has.

Patch is in foster and takes everything in his stride, nothing seems to phase him and he has been the same since he first burst into his foster home! He likes toys but will chew them. He can be left without problems too.

On lead, Patch is a nightmare. He pulls like a train and weaves about, so will need lead training. His dalmatian trait is his stubbornness but luckily his greedy lab side kicks in when the treats come out!

Patch is due to be neutered this week so depending on interest he can be moved either before or a couple of weeks after surgery. He is a humper, which is his expression of excitement, but he is generally submissive around other dogs.

He's currently near Clitheroe, Lancs, and his minimum adoption donation is £200.

Sam's Story

Sam's Story

Believe it or not, we have all encountered some event or chain of events where we can't help but wonder if fate has lent a hand. As volunteers for Labradors in Need, we invest a huge amount of emotion in the dogs we help. In the midst of this, sometimes we witness the pure magic of man's best friend.

Back in April, little miss Aggie organised a beach walk. True to form, she was completely disorganised and even got the tides wrong! We didn't expect much of a turn out as the South isn't a LiN stronghold, but we weren't the only ones to turn up so that was something at least! However, we were joined by a family on holiday nearby and that was the start of something magical.

As the dogs chased balls into the sea and we got talking, Anne explained that her dad had always had labradors and used to enjoy working them in his younger days. Brian didn't talk much about his labs but did pass comment about his age and that he wouldn't want to foster. There was a sadness is his demeanour but I knew very little about them. I explained that we have people in their 80s who have adopted from us but Brian said he wasn't ready. I thought it was a shame as the family dogs were well loved and well cared for, and a huge part of the family unit. As we said our goodbyes, we spoke about meeting up again in June.

Last week, we met up again. This time Fiona brought Anya who couldn't come before as she was in season. Anne brought Quest, her spaniel, and her Mum and Dad brought Tammy, their basset fauve. They also brought two new additions: a black labrador and a huge smile on Brian's face!

Not long after meeting Brian, we were asked if we would help an ex working lab who had been retired by the owner. They wanted him moved ASAP so we managed to arrange transport and asked one of our fosters, a lady called Sam, if she could take him in.

So Sam arrived at Sam's house and the task began with finding him the right home. Except that a home check application came in with a name on it I recognised. It was the first person who came into my head when I read Sam's details, but I had no idea he would apply. That name was Brian.

Sam was in foster with Sam. That amused me. But here's where fate played a hand. Sam lives in the general area of Birmingham and guess who else does? Sam came from Devon and could've gone to any other foster but he ended up in an area where Brian wasn't so far away.

So when we saw Brian last week, he was proudly accompanied by Sam, who was the reason for his smile. Every movement Brian made, Sam was watching him. The bond they have forged in a matter of a few weeks was truly magical. As was Brian's smile. Sometimes, our rescue dogs rescue us right back even when we don't know we need it

Adopted Pretty Pebbles 8yrs old

Pretty Pebbles - Ooh isn't she a sweetheart? This girl is up to date with everything and the perfect companion. She's currently being left for most of the day alone and her owner knows this isn't right for her. She is very much loved, they just want what's best for her.

She has lived with children 8+ and been around younger visiting children with no issues, so her owner has said (please remember to always supervise your kids around dogs, especially when they are settling in). She hasn't lived with cats but did live with another dog, which leads into the next part...

When she was assessed, the owner said that she barks and lunges at other dogs when on the lead but is fine off lead. Her owner doesn't seem to know if it is aggressive or excitement. However, from her behaviour observed it would appear to be excitement.

On her assessment walk, she saw two dogs who she totally ignored. The only reaction seen was in response to a neighbours dog barking at the window, which was just one bark and move on. Pebbles is a puller and is pretty strong on lead. So you will need to be prepared for this and use a walking aid while training her. The owner said that off lead her recall is good but she will chase small yappy dogs for fun

We would like her to join a family where there is someone around most of the time. You will need to work on the pulling and be prepared for her vocal chords getting exercised on walks! She is a biddable girl who has good basic obedience so she will respond to training, you just need to be aware.

She would probably be better as an only dog and can go to a family with kids. Currently in Tamworth, Pebbles needs her forever home ASAP. Her minimum adoption donation is £170.

Kasie, Ellie & Bailey

Please meet our gorgeous Trio, our latest Long Term Foster Dogs. Kasie, Ellie and Bailey

Ellie and Bailey are both 11 and are fox Red. Both are quite timid. Kasie is a 12 year old black lab who has cataracts and is blind. Of the three, Kasie seems to be the most outgoing! She has lots of spirit and doesn't let her eyesight impair her lust for life. Ellie and Kasie are particularly close and although it seems like Ellie depends on Kasie, it may be that Kasie is as confident as she is because she has Ellie.

It's been quite a struggle, but we are happy to announce that we have managed to rehome the 3 of them together. This was a huge achievement for our rehoming team, and we are so proud of the work they have all put in to keep these 3 together.

Since moving to their new home, all three have had a mobile pamper session. They went to the vets recently for a health check. Their nails were clipped, ears treated and were weighed. They all need to gain around 7-10 kg so will be on a high protein diet. Bailey was booked in to have his teeth done. Smelling sweet, they look like different dogs.

Today, the news isn't as positive.

When Bailey was put under at the vets today, they were extremely shocked by the awful condition of his teeth. He had to have six teeth removed and he needs to go back for more extractions. He also has very severe gingivitis that has gone into his sinus bone. This must have been causing him much discomfort, and yet he is as sweet as can be.

Today's and yesterday's vet bill was £668, £600 of which was for the dental work. We are expecting that again when he goes back. So far we have raised £1500 from your generous donations and fundraising, but Bailey's dental work will deplete most of their 'pot'.

Adopted Milo 18mths Old Lab x Dalmation

Milo, 18 month old lab x dalmatian

Since coming into foster ten days ago, Milo has come on in leaps and bounds. He did have a grumble when he was first assessed but when he arrived at the assessor's home, who now has him in foster, he never showed any signs of being wary of her partner (he probably had treats �� ).

He is in foster with two other labs and really enjoys playing with them. He is very energetic and loves to race about, yet he always keeps you in his sights. On lead , he does initially pull and he is slowly getting used to a figure of eight lead. He is fantastic off lead and has met many dogs and behaved impeccably. He is respectful and when he gets too much with one of the resident dogs, he gets told and moves away. His favourite toy is a rope type and he is quite bouncy and vocal when playing, although he seldom barks otherwise.

Milo arrived in foster in quite an agitated state, having spent ten days in kennels where he was starting to shut down. There have been a couple of mystery explosions: one being a bag of food and the other being a dog bed but we are sure it's nothing to do with young milo �� He was extremely anxious at even being in a room on his own when he first arrived, but his fosters have been very slowly leaving him for a few minutes here and there, building it up carefully. This will need to be continued in his new home.

Milo is willing to trust once he knows people are trustworthy. We feel he would be best suited to a home where someone is with him most of the time, so his separation anxiety can be worked through. He also needs an active new owner and would be a fantastic jogging partner or cannicross dog. Due to milo's sensitive nature, we don't think he is suited to a home with children but older teenagers might be OK.

Currently in Leeds, he is neutered and up to date with everything. His minimum adoption donation is £200.

Adopted - Sam 7yrs Old

Look at his ♥ shaped nose! This handsome boy is Sam, he's 7 years old and a retired gun dog.

Sam will need vaccinations & neutering, which LiN will cover the cost of. Otherwise, he appears to be a fit and healthy dog who loves his walks and food! On lead, Sam will pull a little but he isn't used to being on lead. He is trained to walk to heel and has good obedience but it may need polishing up since retiring.

As a working lab, he has been trained to retrieve and used to hunt rabbits. Therefore, if you have small furries you need to make sure their space is Sam proofed. He's never been around cats but has had some interaction with children. So older children should be fine.

Sam lived in kennels prior to retirement. After retirement, he lived indoors with a staffie and is house trained. He's fine around other dogs too.

Sam is currently in foster in Staffordshire and this is what his foster mum has said about him:

Sam has been with me for a week and has come a long way. Considering he came with no collar or lead we weren’t sure how he would react to wearing them, but now as soon as he sees me get the lead out he bounces around like a 2 year old. He does pull on the lead but probably with more training he will improve. He gets on well with other dogs although he’s not bothered with playing with them, he loves human company and will follow you all day. He has met loads of children this week as they all off from school and he has met my grandson who is 4 years old and he was excellent around him. He has seen cats when out walking, he was inquisitive but didn't try chasing them. He does chase ducks and even fell in the canal while chasing them. He can be a little timid when first meeting men, but soon comes around after a short while. He loves playing ball and will bring it back to you. He is house trained and I’ve had no accidents from him. But most of all he is a cuddle monster and would fit in anywhere as long as he has company most the day.

Lucy Needs You

This month's fundraising will focus on 18 month old Lucy, who was only adopted a week ago. Her new owners took her to the vets to book her in to be spayed and the vet has detected an abnormality with her heart. The vet has said that either the valve or the heart itself is leaking and she is booked in to have a heart scan on 18th April. The cost is estimated at £400 minimum.

At this stage, we don't know what ongoing treatment she may need but Labradors in Need will do what we can to help.

Her new owners are smitten with her: "Lucy is such an amazing dog. She’s having a really tough start to life and she’s astonished us with her resilience and bravery. She’s so happy (especially when in water) and loves nothing more than being chased around the garden with a hosepipe or finding an extremely muddy stream to jump in! Although we’ve only had her a week she’s settled in to the heart of our family & we’re desperate to do everything we can to ensure she has a long happy life with us!"

Max & Woody Adopted

Max & Woody are both 11 years old and are friendly, happy boys who get on well together, and really need to stay together.

Woody, the chocolate chunk, isn't neutered but Max, the blondie, is. Both need their vaccinations restarting, which LiN will cover the cost of. Generally, they are both healthy but Max does have some stiffness in his back legs. The vet has advised short walks but he's not on any supplements, which may help going forward.

Currently these boys are kenneled at the house and brought into a heated garage when it's very cold. They are house trained but do go into party mode when they're allowed indoors, so watch the Royal Doulton while they are adjusting!

Both pull on the lead but are so used to being walked off lead as they have excellent recall that they're just not used to it. On meeting them, the assessor found they greeted her with happy tails and friendly interest, but settled quickly.

They have been around kids of all ages but not cats, although a spritely young cat with a safe space would probably out manouver them anyway.

Currently in North Wales, the minimum adoption donation is £175 if we can keep them together.

Charlie Adopted

Charlie is a lively, playful, waggy tailed 5 year old who desperately wants (and deserves) attention and affection. He was taken on by the current owner after his first owner passed away. Unfortunately, Charlie hasn't been properly socialised and is eager to please but barks greetings �� . He was assessed by one of our trustees who observed no aggression on his part, he just needs to be taught how to behave and be socialised in a controlled manner.

Charlie does liv e with another dog but he is somewhat in the other dog's shadow and doesn't get the input that he needs. He also lives with a cat that stands its ground so a dog savvy cat would be needed. The most important thing with Charlie is that you MUST give him the time, patience, love and attention he needs. He needs to be an equal member of a family with another well balanced dog or the only dog. He needs and deserves the commitment of a family who are around a lot for him. He doesn't live with kids so older ones that can engage with him and help with training would be fine. Half the week, the current owner's 8 year old granddaughter stays so he's fine with her.

He's up to date with everything, but does need neutering and LiN will cover the cost of it. We are looking to get him in his forever home ASAP. He's currently in the Skipton area and his minimum adoption donation is £200.

Milly Long Term Foster of the Month

This month is about our newest long term Foster Milly.

Here’s a little about Milly.

Milly, who is 13 and needed a new home due to a relationship breakdown. The owners were distraught but had no other options. She came in to LiN just after Christmas, after Sam assessed and Chris helped transport her to Tracy Grayson her new LTF Mum. She now lives with little Mary, another LiN long term foster, and Buster who is their foster brother.

Her foster mum is smitten with her:
"Apart from her little grey face, you wouldn’t think she was 13 as she is very active. She is our third long term foster girl from LIN. She settled in straight away with Buster and little Mary. She is no trouble what so ever, and is an absolute pleasure to have in our family".

Milly has needed vet treatments for her ear, which was cleaned under sedation as it was troubling her, and some issues with her bowels. Of course, she has an amazing foster mum to take care of her and LiN ensure that she gets the medical treatment she needs now, and ongoing as her age advances.

Titus 12yrs Adopted

Titus is a lively, friendly and playful boy who has a lust for life and mischief. Initially he will pull on the lead but soon settles and walks nicely... Until he sees a cat!! Titus is a cat chaser. He does have great recall and is ball crazy.

Titus has just restart his vaccinations and although generally healthy, he is having some bladder leakage some nights, but not every night. He was brought into emergency foster and has been taken to the vets who have put him on tablets to help with the night dribbles.

He is in foster with two younger labs and can be quite boisterous, which is surprising given that he's almost 12! He gets giddy with excitement and loves playing with his foster brothers. He has no food aggression and is fed with the others. His general obedience is good but you do risk losing a finger for a treat ��

Titus is a very friendly , waggy tailed dog with character. He craves human company and gets on with any other dogs too. He will carry toys around the house and come to greet you with a toy. He will carry a tennis ball constantly while out on a walk. He would suit an active retired home with or without another dog. He can be left too and is fine with kids of all ages.

Titus is currently in Cheshire/ Staffs border and his minimum adoption donation is £100.

Fern Adopted

Beautiful Fern

This beautiful girl is called Fern. She found herself in kennels and we were asked to help. A kennel is no place for an approx 8 year old snuggle monster, so we were fortunate enough to be able to bring her in to Foster. This means we have a much clearer idea of her personality and needs.

Fern is a labrador cross and has been wormed, flea'd and vaccinated. We don't know if she has been spayed but if she comes into season, we will cover the cost. Fern had some kennel related injuries when she first came in on her nose and feet. She has healed well and is thriving in a home environment.

Out and about she is fine with other dogs but her foster mum feels she would be better as an only dog as she craves attention, especially tummy rubs! She will bark initially at new people that enter the house but this is just a nervous response and it isn't prolonged.

Fern is a bit greedy when taking treats and needs to learn to be more gentle. She sleeps in her bed downstairs at night and is settled. Although she doesn't chew furniture, she loves to chew toys. She understands 'sit', 'no' and 'good girl' and is a friendly loving girl who will flourish in a home where she can have human companionship most of the time.

As Fern has been in kennels and is in a child free foster home, we won't home her with children as we have no idea what she is like. She's currently in Yorkshire and her minimum adoption donation is £140.

Zeus Adopted

Is there thunder in your heart for young Zeus? This cracking little boy is only 10 months and needs a new home because the older resident dog isn't accepting him, less so as he's got older. He is up to date with everything but will need neutering, which LiN will cover the cost of.

As already mentioned, he lives with another dog and when assessed, he reacted positively with a puppy he met. He's clearly a sociable boy who likes other dogs. He doesn't pull on the lead but does w alk all over the place, so he needs some lead training. Off lead, Zeus recalls to the whistle and is very good.

Zeus loves children. He was observed playing with the resident chidlren aged 7 and 10 and he wasn't boisterous or over excited. He loves human company and is an affectionate boy. When he is left he is crated because he will chew. It is possible he has mild separation anxiety, but then its also possible that he just chews because he is a labrador puppy! However, if you're worried about your jimmy choo's becoming zeus' chews, he won't be the one for you.

Over all, Zeus is a fantastic young lab that needs a home where he isn't competing for attention, that can continue with his great basic training and help him to feel settled. He is very much loved and his owners are doing their best by asking us to help find him a new home.

He's currently in Northumberland and his minimum adoption donation is £200. Offers of help with transport are appreciated and we are looking to get him settled in the right home for him ASAP.

Elsie Adopted

This little sweetie is Elsie. She is currently in foster and will be ready for adoption at the end of January.

Since being in foster she has remained quite timid, so she may be naturally this way.

Having said that, she happily rolls over for tummy rubs and she loves attention. She will make someone a fantastic companion as all she wants is snuggles and someone to be with her.

Elsie has been spayed and vaccinated since being in foster, so when she's ready to join her new family she won't have any additional stress of vet visits.

Her lead walking hasn't improved much. She's still all over the place and pulls so a harness or halti would be needed. She has met the foster’s grandchildren, from 3 years old upwards, and loves children. Especially when she gets cuddles and tummy tickles!

Elsie is an absolute sweetheart and whoever gets to adopt her will be very, very lucky.

She is 8 years old and lived with four other labradors after being taken in from the previous owner's friend with another lab in July. Elsie hadn't settled in the new home and the owner asked us to help.

She needs a very special, caring home where someone is around most of the time. She needs someone to help build her confidence and give her reassurance, and somebody who is willing to establish a bond with her and train her with the basics.

She also loves to play and have her tummy rubbed!

Elsie is currently in Chesterfield.

When she is ready for adoption, her minimum adoption donation will be £170.

Archie Adopted

Amazing Archie (this photo was taken a while ago as he now has a few grey hairs and has put on weight. Gorgeous chocolate boy, 9 years old, neutered and up to date with everything, Archie is a tall lab who is calm and well mannered.

He is good on and off lead (pulls a little but not unmanageable), knows all his commands and has lived with children. He has lived with a pug, who was the boss, but wasn't seen around other dogs on assessment. He has never lived with cats. He can be left without problems but he is spending long periods alone due to owner's change in circumstances.

Archie does have two lumps on his front legs, which the owner has said are fatty lumps that the vets have checked and aren't concerned about. We have asked for more information on them and will up date when we know. He also has a recurring cyst on his eyelid, which the owner will be getting seen to. Apart from this, he is a healthy boy but hasn't been getting many walks, so will need a gradual increase in exercise to build his muscles and fitness and shed a few pounds.

If you are looking for a gentle giant that does as he's told, loves fuss, attention and affection then this is all the man you need!

Archie is in the Portsmouth area and his minimum adoption donation is £170.

Pudsey Adopted

Pudsey wasn't called Pudsey originally but because he was brought in as a stray, there's no record of his name. He is currently in kennels in Hull and the information about him comes from our assessor, who went to the kennels to assess him.

Pudsey is a lab cross and is about 2 years old. He has been wormed at the kennels but he will need vaccinating and neutering, which LiN will cover the cost of. When meeting our assessor, he was big tail wags and very happy to see her. She was able to stroke him all over and he was fine with being handled.

He has inherited the greedy gene from his lab parent as he loves his food and will work for a treat. No food aggression has been noted by the kennels. He is fed in side by side kennels so could lunge at the fencing between him and another dog, but no such behaviour has been seen. He's a bit clumsy on the lead, possibly down to excitement, and does pull so that will need working on. He will sit for a treat!

Since late December when he arrived at the kennels, he hasn't showed any aggression towards anyone or any other dog. A female greyhound managed to get in with him at one point and he was a good boy. Our assessor observed him with this greyhound and he was fine. When she walked him about past other dogs the only reaction she got from him was excitement!

This boy needs a home where he will get regular exercise to burn off the energy and a warm place to sleep. He's super friendly and has been that way since arriving at the kennels, so he should settle well into a loving home. He is not cat tested and we have no idea how he is with children, so we won't rehome to families with young rugrats. He is bright and willing to learn for anyone prepared to put in the work to train him.

Pudsey's minimum adoption donation is £170.

Handsome boy Ozzie!!!

Ozzie is a 4 year old lovely male labrador who is very much loved by his current owner who is doing the right thing by him.

Ozzie has lived with young kids and is very well behaved. He hasn't lived with cats but doesn't bother when he sees one.

He does pull a little through excitement at the start of a walk but quickly settles.

Ozzie needs to restart his vaccinations and be neutered, which LiN will cover the cost of.

When meeting other dogs he is excitable initially but soon settles, so he can be re homed with another dog.

He doesn't chew (but will pinch washing) and can be left if needed. His obedience is pretty good, although he can be easily distracted, but he has a lust for life and just loves everyone! He doesn't jump up but will snuggle up for a fuss and some kisses.

Ozzie isn't getting the exercise he needs at the moment, but he loves playing and going for long walks.

Currently in Rugeley, Ozzie's minimum adoption donation is £200.

Beautiful Bess

A black beauty is this one!

Beautiful Bess is around 9 years old and a very sweet, calm, laid back girl. She currently lives with two other males who are quite different to her and we believe she would enjoy the comfort of a home where she was with a similar type of dog. It is equally possible that she would thrive being the only dog. She can be left alone but she loves attention and company. Her response to basic commands is good.

Bess has been spayed but will need vaccinati ng, which LiN will cover the cost of. She has no health issues and has been well cared for and loved. She does pull a little to start with but soon settles to walk nicely. She hasn't been recall trained though.

Although Bess has lived with older children, she hasn't lived with cats. Over all, this girl is the perfect companion who would benefit from a calm home and steady companion.

Milly has had a lovely belated Christmas.....there were lots of cards and presents waiting for her when she arrived with us. She loves turkey.....she would eat it all day long. She is my little shadow, everywhere I go she is with me . She has taken a shine to Joe and loves sitting in his bedroom with him watching him play on his Xbox!! She is very active for an older lady......but she does like a little nap too....and she can snore!!!!!

This handsome boy is looking for a home that can put in the time and effort needed to help him.
Freddy is 2 years old and is a bundle of boisterous energy. A large part of this is due to him not getting any exercise. He lives with very young children without issues but may be a little too wild to go into a new home with younger children.
Freddy needs to restart his vaccinations and needs neutering, which LiN will cover the cost of. Out on the lead, Freddy is a weaving ball of excitement! He needs back to basics obedience and lead training. The owner explained that she was frightened to take him out as he was involved in a fight and ran off. Our assessor took her dog with her and they walked apart, bringing them together slowly. Freddy barked and lunged but his behaviour was anxious and excited. There was absolutely no aggression observed. We think Freddy might benefit from the company of an older, calmer, well behaved dog as a role model.
He's a super friendly boy who wants to sit on your lap. He currently lives with another dog. He just needs a home that can recognise he is an over grown pup who needs to be taught all over. He can be left with another dog but will chew shoes if left lying around.
He is in the NN post code area and his minimum adoption donation is £200.

This little girl is a real treasure! Please meet Oxford, an 8 month old bundle of fun. Oxford is up to date with everything and full of life! She has been spayed and is currently in foster with another yellow lab.

She is fantastic with other dogs, her recall is spot on and she stays within sight. She is affectionate and sweet but loves to play. She pulls a little on lead at first but isn't too bad. She loves her walks but is a little unsure of heavy traffic. Apart from that, she is a lovely tempered girl who wants to please.

She's currently in Staffordshire and her minimum adoption donation is £200.

Bailey – Adopted

Bailey has just turned 8 and has lived with kids from babies to 8 years old. He is fine with cats and dogs but don't let his age fool you!! Bailey is not slowing down! He just loves being around people and is a big cuddle monster. He is very good with other dogs, so polite and loves to play.

Bailey is booked in to be neutered with his current foster family, but if he finds his forever home before that date, he will need to be neutered with his new family which LIN will cover the cost for. He is up to date with vaccinations, flea & worm treatment.

He adores his walks and needs them regularly to run his energy off as he is very energetic. Toys are his favourite thing, especially if they squeak! He is learning basic manners but is quite excitable and is a work in progress. He knows the basic commands, and is a very intelligent boy. It won’t take long to work on his manners as long as the training is consistent. Considering his love of squeaky balls, these can be used as a training aid. His recall is improving gradually, but will need on-going training with this. He will also need to learn to walk nicely on a lead, which again will need on-going training. He currently pulls on a lead due to excitement and can be quite strong.

He asks to go out, takes treats nicely and has no issues with eating his food. He eats slowly, and won’t take any food until he is told to. He can be left for a couple of hours, and will not chew whilst you are out.

Ozzie & Chillie Adopted

Is anyone looking to adopt a ready made family? We have two labs that need our help. Chilli is a female fox Red and ozzie is a male choccy. Both are up to date with everything but Chilli will need spaying, which LiN will cover the cost of. They are 4 and 5 years old and are currently just outside Lincoln.

Both walk nicely on the lead but may pull towards other dogs. They will chase cats and don't live with them, but have lived with small children. Their basic obedience and recall is good and they are friendly and affectionate dogs, although one can be a little wary of males until they know them.

These are beautiful labs who can be left if needed with no issues.
They are currently in foster in Birmingham - Could you be their new family?

Hi, I’m an adorable 5-month old, brown eyed, blonde boy.

Since joining my foster family, I have learned that my name is Sam! I have learned to go outside when I want to go to the toilet, will sit when asked (usually) and can give ‘paw’. I now live with two other Labradors, who I am learning to play with. I am also learning to play with toys & discovering how to play fetch with my new ballie. I can be very boisterous when playing & need to learn some manners around other dogs.

I love meeting new dogs on walks but I need training in how to walk nicely as I tend to pull on the lead. I am sure I can learn quickly with continued lead training.

Chewing shoes, socks and slippers are my favourites at the moment, so I’ve been told I need training to stop doing this. I am not food-possessive and my foster family can take food away from me without me getting cross. However, I really like food, so will pinch any I find laying around. I need to learn that some dogs don’t like me trying to ‘push in’ whilst they are eating and eat their food.

I am very affectionate and love cuddling up in an evening, watching TV and giving lots of kisses. I can sometimes get too excited and give a cheeky ‘nip’ but I don’t mean to hurt anyone, I just haven’t learned yet that I shouldn’t do that. Consequently, much as I love children, I really need to learn not to jump up and nip.

As a big puppy, I have loads of energy, which I need to learn to contain. I would love to live with a family that has the time to train me properly, will give me toys to play with and will love me as much as I will love them. I might be a bit too young and boisterous to live with young children or timid dogs. In return, I will promise to try not to chew too many of your shoes...

Meet Jake

We are often asked why we do what we do and whether it is difficult. Our answer is always the same: “Because the dogs need us”. Is it difficult? Absolutely, but if we don’t fight for the ones that needs us, then who will? And so yesterday we started another fight for a much loved and very lovable yellow lab called Jake. However, this fight took an unusual direction…

Jake was born on 2nd January 2014 and has a very dedicated owner who has trained him well. He walks nicely on the lead, has been around young children visiting with no issues and did live with a cat for 2 years. He is well mannered and an absolute gent. There are no issues with other dogs, he is very submissive just a friendly, affectionate sweet boy who wants to please.

Unfortunately, Jake was diagnosed with Addison’s disease in July 2018 and the ongoing cost of steroids and hormone injections followed by blood tests are too much for his owner. The family have tried to help but cannot meet the ongoing costs. Addison’s is the opposite of Cushing’s, it is the under production of hormones such as cortisol and it is quite uncommon. However, as long as the medication is managed, Jake’s condition isn’t life limiting. His heartbroken owner, who is disabled and lives for Jake, estimates a cost of around £200 a month to keep Jake well. At assessment his owner was distraught as they were to grow old together. Our Michelle, who is trustee and also did the assessment, found it very emotional as clearly Jake was very much loved and wanted.

Part of keeping Jake well also involves making sure his stress levels are kept low. This was where we struggled once again. How could we ensure his stress levels would stay low, when rehoming can be extremely stressful for some dogs? Could moving him have a detrimental affect? Then more practical questions arose, like who would adopt a dog with his level of medical need and the cost? Who would be able to commit to take him for his monthly injection followed by blood tests 10 days later, even if we kept him as a long term foster?

Sometimes, the right thing for the dog is not a simple case of rehoming. Sometimes, it’s about keeping families together. Jake is his owner’s life and couldn’t wish for a better home than the one he is in. So we took the unusual decision to add Jake to our long term foster dogs, but keep him exactly where he is. No stress for Jake, we can help with the cost of his treatment for Addison’s and Jake keeps his Dad and his Dad keeps his whole world.

One of the rehoming team stepped forward to be his first sponsor, in memory of her first lab called Jake who is remembered this weekend as the anniversary of his passing. We hope more people will do the same so we can keep Jake safe and well where he is so loved. Home is most definitely where the heart is, please open yours to our new boy Jake.

Aggie Update

Aggie reached her first birthday in August. Without Labradors in Need’s help she wouldn’t have. Born with a narrowed valve from her heart to her lungs, Aggie has been monitored with an ecg at diagnosis and 6 months later. The 6 month ecg found that the condition had progressed from moderate to severe and she needed surgery. In April, Aggie underwent a procedure to insert a balloon into her heart and stretch the valve. The procedure was a success and has improved the 70-80% severity by 40-50%. The valve still isn’t fully functional but it substantially reduces the risk of her life being cut short. Up to this point, vet bills have amounted to around £7,000.

Next month, Aggie is having a follow up ecg to check how things are since surgery. Depending on the findings, she may be able to come off the beta blockers. With any luck, she won’t have to go back for an ecg for another year.

Aggie has to go to a specialist centre at Pride vet hospital for the ecg, the cost of which is £1,300. So the focus of fundraising is to help cover some of this vet bill.

Those of you who have met Aggie will know that she is still brave, determined and mischievous! She’s also nosey, naughty and very much a brat, but she makes everyone smile! We should all ‘be more Aggie’ in some way, because nothing holds her back despite the challenges she faces.

Morning everyone! Little Miss Aggie here.

Well today is the day… I’m off for my sleep over at the Willows. I don’t have to be there til 2pm so I have all morning to terrorise my sisters pahaha. Auntie Sue Poo posted me some new balls that mummy bought from the LiN shop. I now love playing ball but mummy doesn’t let me race about too much because she’s boooooring.

We had our early morning walk just now and we had lots of sausage showers. It wasn’t sausage though, it was not the squirrel. I think mummy enjoys chopping sausage more

Anyway, I better pack my hospital bag ready for later when Rob Grainger is kindly being my chauffeur . I’m not sure whether I should take my own food and snacks, although mum said I’m not allowed to take the snacks I get from the garden if she doesn’t pick it up quick enough. Boooooring.

Thank you everyone who has donated towards the cost of my balloon. We didn’t raise all the money but my Aunties love me so much and I need to have the balloon so I can be a little for a lot longer

Today Aggie had an ecg done at Pride Veterinary Hospital in Derby. Unfortunately, her condition is now severe and she is at risk of heart failure. She has been prescribed beta blockers to slow down her heart rate but she now needs to have surgery.

She is being referred to another specialist for this to be carried out. Aggie’s condition is already life limiting but without the surgery to help widen the valve, her life expectancy is considerably reduced with heart failure expected.

The vet bill for today was £1,300 and we are enormously grateful to all of you who have donated already. The surgery she needs is estimated to be about £4,000 and we feel she is worth every penny. Therefore, over the coming weeks we will be holding fundraisers to do all we can to ensure Aggie is given the best chance possible.

She is the most amazing puppy, full of character and courage, as well as mischief and mayhem, and she just loves everyone she meets. We all love her too and hope that you can help us in any small way to help her.
